German anonymity
Although this subject has been touched on before I still fail to understand why so many actresses in German porn are totally anonymous. They either use so many different names the whole thing is meaningless or there is no name at all. The American adult industry has proved that adult stars do have a following and, because a certain person is in a film, customers will buy that film. With some exceptions e.g. Kelly Trump, that is not possible with German films. Why is this? I have heard it argued it is because they don't want to be recognised outside the industry but this argument doesn't stand up. Clearly they don't use their own name, if they are recognised when 'off-duty', it is from their appearance not from their real name, so that is not the explaination. The list of aliases for some actresses in the actresses' section of this site is staggering, it must be a nightmare for Alec to keep track. I can see no logical reason, commercially, why the German industry does this. Can anyone else?

This is a good question. There are just a few ?stars? here in Germany like ?Anja Juliette Laval?, ?Gina Wild? or ?Vivian Schmitt? during the last century.
An aspect is, that in Germany most of the porn stuff is made just for the Video and DVD rentals. The girls are mostly non-professionals and don't have a clue how to become fame and get money during the internet or however (in America are real great pornstars who have their own paysites as you know). The companies make fast productions and put off the movies nearly daily. There is so much rubbish which has no story, no locations - and no real actresses. I don't know if people really like this: just fucking in three or four positions, cumshot and than the next scene is coming ...
Here are just two remarkable producing companies: ?Magma? and ?Videorama?. When Magma has ?Moli? in most of their movies for directing, Videorama has their ?Harry S. Morgan?. I believe both companies get 80 to 90 percent of the whole german market. They don't earn their real money with the ?Teeny Exzesse? serials, they earn their money mostly with ?amateur look alike? movies as ?Happy Video Privat? or ?Naturgeile Amateure? where they pay an actress not more than 300 Euros per day (and if they need just half a day. they pay ony 150). Now you can calculate if four or five scenes will become a ?full movie? ...
The girls who make porn with a little ?fame? mostly stay with the company. Anja can only be seen on Magma; Gina and Vivian can only be seen at Videorama. I think there no more space for more ?quality porn? (imho it's Gonzo, but this is another story). Most of the other actresses just make this beside their normal jobs, so it could be a good explaination that they don't want to be identified.
Another point which could be an explaination: if one of the actresses is named ?Susi? in a Videorama movie, she's named ?Ingeborg? in a Magma movie. And that's just because Magma won't take any Videorama-girls and Videorama won't take any which made a Magma movie with their names the girls got before. I think the only exception is male actor Conny Dachs who work for both companies.
The rest of the market outside the Videorama and Magma productions are making very ?special stuff? with matures, amateurs, interviews and so on (Purzel Video, GGG). These small companies make real gonzo bullshit and overflew the market with boring porn (three ugly people, a handycam and the lights from a tool market: ready are two hours of porn). These actresse mostly will never seen again in any other movie.
This is not the complete explaination, but it should be a hint how german movies are produced and why most of the girl change their name as they wanted to do.

Forgotten to say: In Germany the girls are mostly making as most porn as fast as they can do to earn money (if the compynies let them do). There's no time to build up a ?star? which absence in porn should be one point of the marketing strategy.

Very much agree with you, Lou. I am just wondering how long the German industry can keep on turning out the type of crap John Thompson does in Munich. I suppose it sells, but heaven knows why. There have been times in the past when I have thought the Germans had lost the plot, only to find someone has come along with some innovation and saved the day. I hope history will repeat itself soon. It really seems to me that the opportunities offered by EU expansion and freer travel from the former Soviet Union in making available so many potential actresses to the industry have been totally squandered on mediocrity and exploitative dross.

Can we please stick to the spelling "Lahaie". I know Rechmeier uses the spelling without the 'e' in his book, but that was just a mistake and no reason to repeat it and make other people repeat it...

Can we please stick to the spelling "Lahaie". I know Rechmeier uses the spelling without the 'e' in his book, but that was just a mistake and no reason to repeat it and make other people repeat it...

Is the Puaka label in Germany a company that produces its own films or do they just issue other studios productions? They never have any info about who made or appeared in their dvds. Sometimes though you can recognise the same girl in say a DBM Videorama or Magma film but even then theres not much to go on.

I think it is a mixture of both. They do clearly label their products if they have been made in Germany. They are, I think, the only company to do so.

Puaka is one of the smaller companies here in Germany. Most of the stuff they make is pure gonzo porn. In my opinion a few of the later better known actresses start with companies like ?Puaka? or ?Purzel? and then move to Viderama and Magma. It's like a ?set card? of a model It was the same with Anja Juliette Laval who made two movies for small productions before she begin at Magma. The first two movies were a long time ?out of print? (don't know if they still are) at the time she worked exclusive for Magma ..
