In fact he is usually credited as Dominique S-C (I'm using of 'S-C' to avoid spelling errors myself), but because of the confusion with the female Dominique S-C, I chose, initially, if I remember correctly, to make his main name Gil Lagard?re, but this was later changed.

Dominique can be a male name or a female name. The late Dominique Aveline has sometimes been listed as a female in (usually American) credits (which sometimes also refer to Gabrielle (!) Pontello).
