Why so many Hungarian actresses on this site?

I can't be the only one who's noticed this. I'm just wondering what the cause might be. They seem to be grossly overrepresented when considering Europe on the whole.

Is Hungarian porn just extremely well-documented here?

Are Hungarians just that free with their sexuality?

Is poverty that bad in Hungary that so many women have no option but to do porn?

I'm honestly wondering.

I don't do much social studies, and I don't live there to have a more direct knowledge of
life there.
But it all started in the early 1990's with Elegant Angel, John Stagliano and Pierre Woodman
(Private) shooting and recruiting there. That is where the action started after the fall of the
Berlin Wall and Russian empire. The girls were pretty and willing to do extreme
stuff (anal, DP, etc). They would pay them (way) much better than their dull day time jobs
(and yes they would often be taken by P.W. and others to tropical/exotic places),
so it was all a good fit for porn movies.

I have noticed that sexual business (porn or prostitution or other forms) is typically accepted by women who live in countries where economy is low, but increasing or downing. If the country is rich, there is no necessity, where the country is steadily poor, there are no big exigences to satisfy nor big opportunities of profit. Hungary was a land just in these conditions after the fall of the Berlin wall, so as Chech Republic. Now we have a lot of Russians, because now that country has reached those conditions. In Italy we had a lot of prostitutes after the second world war: they would be pornstars if at that time the industry was active.

Social and economic conditions in the USA are not at the level of Third World countries
and yet you have a very thriving porn industry. Canada is pretty much at par with
the USA in those two areas and also liberal and very free of censorship, but you have a
very tiny porn industry (mostly in Quebec and a bit in Ontario I believe).
India is a very poor country, yet there is no open porn industry, and what little
there is, it is dismal, amateurish and underground. There are Indians-Pakistanis
living in the US, but you do not see them much flocking to LA/Miami to be porn performers.
Asians seem to do very well in porn (females, you hardly see Asian males males),
as do blacks and Latinas.
I think to a great extent it's a question of culture and cultural upbringing. It may
be OK to be prostitutes, but porn is frowned up in certain cultures.
Italy has a struggling porn industry, if you want to call it that, and much of it
is pro-am, or big budget movies shot outside in Spain, Hungary, etc with mostly
non-Italian male and female performers. If you look at the porn careers of
Italian performers, they only do a handful of movies and basically go the strip-club route
(and escorting) to make ends meet.
Some South American countries are poor, but you only have porn production
of considerable size in Brazil (straight, gay and extreme fetish kind), a bit in Argentina and
Colombia and that it about it.
Eastern Europeans are not that hung up on sex, and that is why you see a lot of
porn production and activity there (Siffredi lives and works there, as do Mario
Salieri and P.W.). American companies either shot/shoot there occasionally
or they pay for product shot there. With the situation in California about condom use
in porn movies, it may be that more movies will be produced in (estern) Europe than
ever before.

Just took a peek at the "statistics" section of Eurobabeindex.com just to have an idea
how "many" Hungarian performers are listed there versus other ethnics groups.
I know, I know, some of them have not really done any/much scenes/movies and are/
have been just "models", but at least you get an inkling who is (has been) working in the adult
industry in some manner or other.

Here it goes:
Czech Republic: 806
Hungary: 755
Russia: 713
So essentially.... these are the BIG three (and they are pretty much tied), and everyone
else trails far off behind (Romania: 116, Poland -16, etc).
So where is this big "deal" (er...claim) that Hungarians (girls) are hogging the porn
scene?
Do we need to scour the IAFD and EGAFD database to ferret out these Hungarians
who are hiding there?
Does "Johnny Bang" know something the rest of us are unaware of, or are not
being told? Are performers hiding their true ethnic origins to screw up these statistics?

I think- 5, 10, even 15 years ago- Hungary would have been top with CZ a
poor second and Russia a distant third. Back then [as you know] US outfits
were mainly focused on Buda and it was only later [partly with the post-Red
thaw] that the other regions were exploited in a big way. Of all the ex-Soviet
satellites, Hungary was always at the vanguard of what little liberalism that
might be achieved- and my, did they pay for it in blood..... but one digresses

bloodthirsty suppression of freedoms is much on my mind].

EBI's statistics are for ALL performers listed there, both active and inactive.
But the numbers are nevertheless telling.
If you took a snapshot in 1992, 1993, 1994 obviously you would find
Hungarians at the very top of that list. That is where it all started.
But I was merely responding to Johnny Bangs' post and assertions that
Hungarian performers numerically outstrip all other Euro nationalities.
These EBI statistics don't seem to bear that out, and it has nothing
to do with the economic situation there. If that were even remotely true,
why are very few Polish, Romanians, and other even poorer eastern
European performers in porn?

That was my view- he might have been right 10 years ago, but certainly not
now.
I would only use EBI as a general guide to trends, anyway, and mainly for the
last ten years- they don't list many perfs at all who were active before then.
They also have a marked bias for E Euros and against French and German perfs.,
inter alia- probably a reflection of their admins' interests/expertise.

OK, let's see what IAFD has as far as female performers of Hungarian heritage.

There are about 49 pages of such performers, with each page containing
about 25 names. That totals about 1,225 performers give or take a few.


For actresses with Czech heritage there are 47 pages, totaling approximately 1,175
pretty much at par with the Hungarians. The numbers here are pretty much
double what EBI shows, but what is telling is that the Hungarians are pretty much
neck in neck with the Czechs (as EBI shows).


Even if we add the Slovaks to the mix, there are 75 performers listed.


As far as Romanians are concerned IAFD lists approx. 200 actresses,
and there are 125 Polish girls.

I have no clue what EGAFD shows, as there is no simple way to access that
information and in many cases their heritage is not indicated in their filmography page.
