The whole internet works on something called ip (internet protocol),
also known as tcp/ip.

Every computer that connects to the internet has a unique 'ip' address
(a bit like a phone number). It will be four sets of numbers like this -
123.456.789.123

Normally when you connect to the internet you are given a temporary
ip address by your internet service supplier (ISP). This can change each
time you connect to the internet (although will often be the same one).

What you need is a permanent ip address, so your machine will always
have the same ip address every time it connects to the internet.

You can talk to your isp about this, although someone will need to
update the networking settings in your PC (which is not too difficult
if you are using Windows).

You'll definately need broadband but be aware that whether you have a 512k or a 2mb line, you'll still only get 256k going up.
Many of the cheaper packages will give you a dynamic IP address but paying a couple of quid more each month you'll get a fixed or static IP.
Every time you go on the internet you get a unique IP number in the form of 200.96.85.73. A static IP address means that you will always use the same IP number each time. Look for an ISP who offer this.
