Satellite/internet/ iptv/ all too little to late?

Post by jimslip »

All the discussions regarding the output of porn via all these new mediums seems to disregard one major point.

The technology has changed dramatically, but we as producers are still making much the same old shit that has been churned out for the last 30 years, without the goaty beards and flared trousers perhaps.

I believe we are stuck in a huge rut and in fact the consumer is changing and moving on. No more are people happy to sit as voyeurs watching porn studs shagging models, they want more. This is why I believe, there is an explosion in sex parties, swinging and general paid -for sex . The consumer now wants to share in the REAL thing.

My bleak view is that porn as a visual medium, in its present form ,will die a slow and long inevitable death. Maybe this is why the authorities are mostly ignoring us, because we are fast becoming irrelevant.

All these new output mediums are merely feeding the public from the same trough of shit and the public are already bored. They are bombarded with erotic imagary from every angle from pop videos to the Fashion Channel. Anyone can find porn on the internet 24/7 free of charge. The novelty has gone.

I believe that the days of just filming people shagging and making a buck are numbered.

We as producers must creatively catch up both with the technology and the consumers that we so deride!

Oh doom is me!

I expect I'll be pooping the producers Xmas party with this topic!

Total rubbish, the whole idea of a new delivery method is not only porn its global television, over the last few days we have been talking with ITV/BBC and there is a good understanding where IPTV fits in..it is fast, flexible and cheap a channel with SKY costs about 3k a day to transmit. cable if you can get a channel about half that. IPTV will be able to transmit globally for around ?300per day. It can transmit HI-Def you can get Hindu TV in Crewe and TVcrewe in New York. Ever football team will have its own channel and I don't mean the premiership Div 3 and lower. All the niche sports like shinty, chess, polo you name it. If you go into a magazine shop and there is two magazines with similar content someone will start a channel to match. For the first time TV will be to suit the consumer.....as for Porn no more waiting or getting ripped off down the sex shop....it will be massive because it is discreet....you don't need to go into a store a announce you are a wanker, or buy a fancy dish pointing a different way from everyone else in the street...you know that wanker at the end of the road. Mr and Mrs Ordinary will switch on their TV and go to a HC movie channel and watch what they want in their own home....why does hotel porn channels do so well guys still love it without the need to go and buy it.....

I realise for the older guys it is scary but us young breed its all pretty normal,

I think you totally missed the point of what i wrote and have mistakenly taken it as some kind of personal rebuke of your business.

I was making an observation to other producers (not providors) that might in the long-term benefit all of us. It's not a question of "old" versus "young" it's a question of daring to change and innovate.

Exactly my point, "porn" is now fragmenting into 1000's of niche categories and in turn dessimating the core, "porn-stud shags blonde" market that we thought would be here for ever.

Anyway i expect to get alot of abuse over my choice of topic, a case of "shooting the messenger" I think!

I remember a certain DS ask me did I think the internet will catch on when I told him I was taking 30-50k a month off it he almost ran all the way to PC world. Being first is the key asking any marketing company you can market just about anythin as long as you are at the start...as for IPTV you will buy a box Jim because you will get all the local TV channels from UK where you are it is ideal for X-pats, just like the 2million chinnese/Hindu's in the UK....
I will admit you will probably wait till they are cheap or second hand off ebay. No sense it throwing money away.

Phil

I'm actually trying to be contructive. What you and others are doing is great, providing the mediums for us to get the material through to the public.

I'm trying to get all of us producers to think in new and innovative ways, so that we firstly start to produce new and exciting porn that the public will actually want.

The methods of delivery have increased exponentially over the last 15 years, but i believe the porn consumer market hasn't actually increased in the same way. That is OUR fault as producers.

We are the equivelant of companies like Littlewoods or Marks and Spencer, we haven't kept up with changing trends.

I have no idea how to remedy this, but I think the gathering at the Hilton last week maybe the first germ of hope, that producers can get their heads together, without stabbing each other in the back, and collectively start to originate and generate new trends and ideas in porn.

Your enterprise is ultimately fed by our creativity, in a way we either all succeed or fail together in the end.

I have put my own ideas to the test, jimslip.com should have failed. It broke all the Rules Of Porn ie:

Its got someone with specs in it
He's old
He's unfit and smokes
There are hardly any dp's
No gang bangs
No fisting
No element of abuse
Girls smile and have fun

Yet it is a great success, why? Because it had a slightly, predesigned ,different creative angle to it, every aspect in every scene was thought about, although you'd never know it. Most importantly of all , it's target market was carefully thought about as well.

So "creativity" doesnt have to mean girls in rubber, nun's outfits ,walking around in strobe lighting with an enema pipe stuck up their arses.

It can merely be subtle changes and innovations within normal scenes.

Wha??? You mean pussy and looking at naked women will go out of fashion??? Never! No matter hiow much people want to do the real thing, there is no substitute for self love and we all know that porn is one of the vital tools required for males because we prefer the visual medium women are more cerebral and therefore not so dependent.

Humans are naturally voyeuristic in general and apart from spectator sports such as boxing, car crash demolition derbys and the old lady giving a wannabe first time mugger a beating about the head with her wooden handled umbrella, porn in its many forms is the numero uno choice of those who like to watch. Its becoming available everywhere because in some way its becoming more and more acceptable.

This is not a call to put down your camera Jim. Its not as lucrative as it was years ago but look at how far we've come for it to available everywhere...For the discerning punter as i've said on many occasion...has never had it better....Now we can all drown in a niagra of filth....God bless the 21st century!

For all the pessimism, there is still a lot of money being spent on internet porn around the world.
Every so often, when I'm bored, I have a look at the date and time of my sign-up emails from CCBill. They are all numbered sequentially so you can work out how many sign-ups there were around the world during the time interval between them. I reckon CCBill are taking about $80000 an hour of which they make between 14 and 16% - and that's just sign-ups not rebills.

Given the vast back catalogue that already exists you would have thought this would have already manifested itself but it would seem that punters still want that 'new face' to look at

Even with so much free stuff available some punters can't resist paying for it

Like any industry you've got to change with the technology or you will perish
The change from video/dvd to websites/broadband is well under way from what i can see

The day website content buyers stop purchasing/making new material I'd say the human race would be near extinct

cheers
