problems issues with directories

Post by Whicker »

Hi- The aim of this thread is to raise issues with the way some sites are promoted- hopefully then it might help newer and existing webmasters. See if you agree/disagree etc....

Main problems with directories:

1. Lack of updates. Sites such as lauralee-world are simply a waste of time. Profiles are months, sometimes YEARS out of date. Models have quit, moved on, changed levels or whatever .

2. Lack of prices- Some sites expect you to give full booking information without even saying prices.

3. Sites without enough pictures. Given that these ladies are models, it seems reasonable to have large, good qualitiy images of what they look like.

4. Sites that only have a central e mail address. ie model@modelsite.com (possibly questions delt with by an agent/webmaster) rather than a specifc address the model can reply from. I find this type of address leads to questions being ignored or answered badly.

5. Sites that charge, we are customers looking to hire people who I assume want work. As such charging for the priviledge of making contact is silly and helps neither model or tog!

I would like to address number 5

How exactly do you propose the site makes money to actually operate ?

Directories make their money by people paying for contact information, if the model has not updated their profile, its NOT the directories fault, its the models fault for not doing it it most cases.

Agencys on the other hand, they make money by taking a % of the money a model earns, so they dont need to charge you fore contacting the girls.

If you dont want to pay, May i suggest you use Agency's who take a cut of the models money, they are always free, try WalPole Group, speak to Iain or Debbie, tell them the type of model you want, and your requirements, they will get back to you with a list of girls that fit your requirements, then when you choose, they will give u the price and off you go.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

I'm in the process of setting up http://www.adultindustryresources.com
(the grunt work is nearly done, promotion starts soon).

1) Updates - it's up to girls to update.

My approach is that search results will return more recently updated first, so those who don't will drift down the results.

2) A lot of models use the way you approach them to work out how serious you are. "Hi, I want to shoot you, what are your charges" is a classic sign that the tog just wants to talk, not book.

In my experience as a model, serious people say "I want THIS, in LOCATION, on date TBA, and I'm offering X"

At minimum you should be able to say "it's a GG soft shoot, all day with various costume changes, location tba, but in or near Midlands, date tba but hopefully 16,17 or 23rd August. What would you charge, including travel?"

Hint - it's really good for you to have a site of your own so that people can see examples of your work.

3) Pictures. Bandwidth. Cost. Money.

Site pictures give you an idea of the model, ask her for bigger ones if you need them.

4) Good point. My site sends all enqs direct to the model, but doesn't give you their email address. Though it gives them yours.

5) Sites have to make money, even if only to cover expenses.

I'm hoping to do it without charging togs, but if that doesn't work AND I end up with lots of models in an easy to find format I might charge a few quid a year, if only to sort the serious from the less so.

I still love performing and shooting, and always happy to help people make porn. Esp if tittivation.com will be an outlet :-)

To take the point " How do the directories make money?"

Surely it should be the model who pays, no? After all it is they who are placing the advert and looking for work.

If I was selling my car I wouldn't put an advert in the newspaper saying "car for sale, give me a fiver and I'll tell you more about it and how much it is selling for! "

As for the lack of updates , I DO Think the directory/agency should have some resposnsibility for this too. Just a quick e mail, phone call to models to check they are still looking for work wouldn't hurt.

I have had a bad experience, where I booked a model through an agency, they said everything is fine, arranged a date. A couple of days before the shoot I was texted saying " Sorry, the model can't be contacted ." Erm, THANKS for that.
