Hi
Hoping someone can give me some advice, I am looking to create a site for a model and the .com of her name is taken. I can register the co.uk so before I look for alternative .com's can someone let me know if there is a huge difference? I remember someone a few years ago saying to me that co.uk's are a waste of time and I should always use .com.
The .co.uk would be good because then I can use the models full name as the url
Thanks

I don't think co.uk is a waste really, alternativly you could always put a - in the name, but then there is always cause for confusion with same models names.
What about something like www.modelblhablah.com

Re: Domain name advice
Maybe we should adopt that as our logo: bgafd.co.uk - a complete waste of time...
Re: Domain name advice
Good point !!!!
I won't tell you who told me it was a waste of time. !
I think he was talking along the lines of how quickly the search engines find the sites. But as you say BGAFD certainly don't seem to have a problem there. You are always well up towards the top of the google searches.
I'm convinced, co.uk it is
Cheers

With the thousands and thousands of porn sites on the web I would not be too worried about google searchings and listings.

Not sure why I shouldn't worry about google searches, all my other sites are found easy enough!!

Neil,
I always try and get both the .com and .co.uk because in my experience some lil biznatch will cybersquat on the counter part.
if possible take the .co.uk and then maybe take the .com and .co.uk with a - in the name or something else, and use the .co.uk as the pointer or an additional parked name, but use the - for your marketting and everything else.
Lets say i was looking for Bob Smiths website, majority of people will go bobsmith.com if thats someone else they will give up there, and not bother trying .co.uk, however if the .com doesnt exist some may try .co.uk instead, so thats one concern.
Another is search engines like putting people in boxes
Like if i search UK Only on Google for my keywords ONLY my .co.uk domains come in, my .coms are not there, if i do whole web my .coms dominate the first 3 pages before my .co.uk's get a look in, so there are definate reasons to have BOTH.
Its worth considering that google and majority of search engines default to searching the WHOLE web not UK based as well.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Re: Domain name advice
dot co dot uk a waste of time is it??? Thats like saying 0208 is crap because 0207 is better. I've got a dot tv too and it aint hurt too much either. Dot coms arent any guarantee of a sites success so I'm not sure who told you that was making any real sense.
They all work equally as well from my point of view

Re: Domain name advice
Don't think though that having a .co.uk will mean you will get listed in a UK search for Google, as that is not the case. Google look at where the ip address the domain is registered to and will only list domains that site on a UK IP in their UK searches.
