I have recently noticed a number of girls, some well known & established in the industry, repeatedly advertising for work or even talking of quitting due to lack of work, is it a case of too much talent available for the amount of work available or are times really that hard in the industry?

Re: Hard Times?
Well I'm plodding along quite busy with my lot but look at it this way, if producers cannot see any money coming in it doesnt make sense pumping more money into productions = less work for talent.
In short. It looks like it but like any slump it always comes back. I think some producers will retreat to adapt to the situation then come back or not at all. Hark at Mr Business Analyst here!)
My theory is that the internet has made some and broke others. DVD sales are really slow. The shops are not buying for being crammed to the wall with product so theres a whole variety of factors responsible for this.
Even if your product is blinding, people still choose to buy a pirate from some dodgy oriental bloke off the high street. I know because I get them approaching me all the time when I'm rolling through Tottenham.

Re: Hard Times?
Terry, do you think the time as come where we (producers of any genre/type/style) both adult and mainstream, need to adapt in a way like the high street did ?
Stack Em High and Sell Em Cheap maybe ?
Rather than do ?20 copy protection free, we should offer an alternative ?3 copy protected, or something like that, give people the option to make it cheaper than the dodgey geezer in the street ?
I mean sell 10 at ?20 or 100 at ?3, Wallmart style ?
I believe ITunes are making this change now, to non DRM protected, is it time we did ?

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?
Re: Hard Times?
Like many things I think it?s supply and demand. I?ve been building my site up for a year and many times I?ve thought about given up. I?d just can?t compete with some of the bigger companies who can shoot 3 or 4 times a week. It?s also a little disheartening when you come on the forums and feel everyone and anybody has got or starting their own porn site. Sometimes, you think it?s not worth it.

Androm, The market moves at a million miles an hour, I liken internet porn to that of a dog years, but with a deep sea feel, you need to realise 7 net years to one normal year, and theres always a shark waiting to move in on ya.
If you have a product with a market thats not already nailed, its well worth it, but once you introduce your product, you need to put your foot down, to keep up, because if your new market looks good the sharks will move in on you, so you need to step it up a gear to keep ontop.
I do know how you feel tho

Re: Hard Times?
Ah, the lovely subject of business.
The adult industry is like all other industries, it relies on supply and demand and how your product is marketed. If other people are making money in a certain industry then it proves it can be done.
Porn or the adult industry, is one the fastest growing industries on the planet. Due to the invention we call the internet and especially broadband, it has taken the sales away from the back street shops and into people's homes.
I agree that DVD sales are slowing down, and I think this will continue. I suggest to look at the amazing opportunities online and business models such as Strictly Broadband (I have no association with this company) and what they do. An online viewing/rental style service that requires little human control, works 24/7 and doesn't hold any stock.
I run websites for a living and it is very obvious to me that the future of porn, and a lot of other things, is internet based. There are still massive opportunities for actresses, producers and suppliers if you utilise the internet to it's amazing potential.
Remember that your marketing is also very important and just think about the customer. Mention the word porn and the word internet springs to mind automatically. Website subscriptions, cam shows, specialised 1 off DVDs and home studios etc is where the future is. This is of course only my opinion.
I don't like saying this, but when it comes to porn, always look at America and what they are doing. Something like 90% of all adult sites are American and they make billions of pounds a year.
It is not all doom and gloom, instead I think it is a very exciting time as new and niche models, producers and directs can make and distribute their products to their specific target market in a effective and relatively cheap way.
Lesson over

As an outsider looking in I think the lesson should begin by looking at why America is successful when most of the UK isn't.
