Re: How do you get your own channel?
First you would need a licence to broadcast. All the information you need to obtain that is available on the OFCOM website.
To cut a long story short, once you have a licence in order to broadcast a satellite channel you would have to lease transponder time on one of the relevant satellites.
It would be useful of course to also apply to BSkyB to have your channel added to the Sky EPG.
Don't bother with the freeview option as you can't afford it, unless you're simply looking for a timeshare, although that would probably still be cost prohibitive.

I had this conversation with someone I know who works for Sky, the figures aren't accurate, but you'd be looking to pay Sky anywhere between ?30-50k a month from day one.
Budget anywhere between ?3-5m to stand a chance of making it through your first year.

James, many thanks for the information, very insightful. Is babechannel yours, have you been down this road?
Really need to speak with someone that has more knowledge over this, as i'm here in Bournemouth, a big studio set out right, models to hand but not knowing how to put it all together. Almost purchasing a pricey deal on camsite, have premium rate numbers to hand, now not knowing my next steps, even happy to pay for advice or bring a partner involved. I notice all the studios are Bristol, London, manchester or north... maybe some girls from the south could be good for business
Peter, wow, this kind of money is incredible, I didnt realise when I first started out, Ive put a lot of time & money into this already... Maybe the tv shall have to wait :S

Arsewithclass, no I haven't been down this road personally, but uplink, satellite space etc is not that complicated. Producing broadcast material is probably the bigger task.
