"concerns' over sex shops

Post by TopShelfBlue »

Story from the local rag in Ipswich about 'concerns' over applications to open new sex shops. Funny how the newspaper in question has no qualms about the rising trade in massage parlours that pay to advertise in the classified section of the very same paper.
And who the hell are these religious 'leaders'? Who are they leading?

Concerns over rise in porn trade

May 8, 2003 05:33

CONCERNS have been raised over the rising pornography trade in Ipswich.
Religious leaders and watchdog groups have said they are "saddened" by the apparent market for hardcore sex goods in the town, after several applications for new shops.
The town's first licensed sex shop, Sixx in Upper Orwell Street, opened this year selling hardcore goods, videos and DVDs.
A second license was also granted to a sex shop in Norwich Road.
Two applications for sex shops have been received by Ipswich Borough Council, one relates to premises behind the town's entertainment complex in Cardinal Park and the other is in Upper Brook Street.
If both are accepted, Ipswich will have four outlets. Norwich has one licensed sex shop, Cambridge has two, Haverhill has one and Bury St Edmunds none.
Neal Smith, minister at the Colchester Road Baptist Church, said: "I think it is a sad situation. I believe God has a much better plan for human relationships than that."
Jack Chapman, chairman of the Ipswich Society, which monitors development in the town, said: "I do think four shops would be a bit much.
"You can't actually stop this if there is a market for it locally but you can try to control it and make sure the shops are in suitable areas, away from children and residential areas."
Kevan Lim, county councillor for Ipswich Town, said he had not yet studied the applications and added: "I haven't got any problem with shops such as Ann Summers, selling lingerie and the like but if they were to be more hardcore, I might well be objecting."
People have 28 days to object to the application for a licensed sex shop in New Cardinal Street, submitted by Mark Lewis of Bright Light Leisure Ltd, Cambridge.
Darker Enterprises, of Barking, Essex, which owns more than 70 similar outlets around the country, applied on May 6 for permission for a licensed sex shop on Upper Brook Street. Both applicants were unavailable for comment.
Any objections to the applications should be sent to the Group Manager, Environmental Services, Civic Centre, Civic Drive, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2EE.

To be able to go into a Sex Shop you have to be 18. To be able to go into a betting office you must also be 18. Sex Shops are situated in seedy parts of most towns and are shifty looking places to uneducated people who decide that they're undesirable. Betting Shops are a regular feature on any high street and well marketed for losers to go in and blow their money (Like me on the pools). Strange how they both have to be able to follow strict rules to trade and yet people who visit a Sex Shop are looked upon as perverted.

People say 'how would you like a Sex Shop next door to you?'
I, for one, would relish the idea. Just think of the savings and 'discounts' you'd get from your 'friendly' neighbour when you lend them a cup of sugar/place to stash some 'under the counter' stuff* for unannounced Police raids (*delete as appropriate)

"And who the hell are these religious 'leaders'? Who are they leading?"

Not me, that's for sure. Every time a current affairs program invites a 'religious leader' on the box to pontificate on some "controversial" issue of the day I'm usually gripped by an irrational urge to kick the TV screen in! I mean, who the fuck, except for a rapidly diminishing band of dotty old biddies, gives the slightest toss what they think? So, why fucking ask them, hey? Church and state should immediately be disestablished. I, and many others, don't want some sanctimonious twat tut-tut ting and suggesting that the state should intervene to stop folks doing what they like to do. The church does do good positive work, but let's not forget that that virtually every religion, past and present, has been invoked to justify the barbaric murder and slaughter of millions. It's all bollocks!

"Religious leaders and watchdog groups have said they are "saddened" by the apparent market for hardcore sex goods in the town"

"Saddened?" Why be so fucking sad about our pre-programmed desire for sex? I mean I?ve always found it pretty enjoyable, positive and uplifting and I'm quiet certain my feelings are not perverse. Maybe these "saddened" sados could do with some saucy sex therapy? I mean, to dislike and object to something that we are naturally pre-disposed to dig is, well, unnatural and perverse, is it not? So, therefore, logic dictates that anyone who objects to sex is a weirdo, nutcase and possibly even a perv! Maybe a new press campaign to persecute these anti-sex sados would be in order? I reckon it could be pretty groovy.

"Neal Smith, minister at the Colchester Road Baptist Church, said: "I think it is a sad situation. I believe God has a much better plan for human relationships than that."

Ah! What a pious, pompous, sanctimonious, middleclass twat! - Hey, Neal man, get a fucking life will ya? If you want a good no airy-fairy nonsense plan I suggest you go and see Debbie my favourite call girl, she can sort out virtually any pesky human relationship problem by smoking your beef while you fondle her giant jubblies! Wheyhey!

""You can't actually stop this if there is a market for it locally but you can try to control it and make sure the shops are in suitable areas, away from children and residential areas."

And pray, why would that be necessary if sex is a perfectly normal and positive aspect of the human condition? To suggest we quarantine sex from various sections of society is to suggest that it is not normal or positive. Which is of course the prevailing status quo at the moment. Once again, it?s all bollocks.

"Darker Enterprises, of Barking, Essex, which owns more than 70 similar outlets around the country,"

For "Darker Enterprises" read - Small Essex geezer with huge wad.

Apparently, Anne Summers are opening a place in Colchester. The local burghers are hacked off about the private shop as it is. God knows how they'll react to sex aids and lingerie. I foresee some sort of Frankenstinian crowd with pitch forks and burning torches.

Who does the more damage to the community?

The problem gambler or the so called sex pervert?

Our Chief Prosecutor was recently filmed for 2 days going about his business.16 visits local betting shop to place bets on the Nags & 10 visits to the local newsagebt to buy scratchy tickets in working hours.Obviously an obsession but the public doesn't care because he isn't harming anybody
so why is sex the odd one out

To many Puritans in society...STILL?

If he were filmed going into a sex shop just once his name would be mud

Double standards as per usual

cheers

what a load of complete and utter drivel. Sex and masturbation are healthy and should be embraced (as long as its "safe sex").

Religious leaders? aren't quite a number of these paragons of virtue practising peadophiles? definitely the people I'll be turning to for moral advice and directions for the right path. Fuck me!

They should sit these idiots down with a spliff and the Cheryl scene from Little Smart Asses and see how long it takes for them to feel those NATURAL (and DAMN GOOD!) stirrings in the old chap. Lunatics!
