Angel's Dilemma

Post by necromancer »

The bukkake party/HIV thread has been an interesting one, albeit an issue that has been discussed many times before on this forum and others.

As it turns out, its not just one simple issue. Its about our different perspectives on sexual health, and our different perspectives on what constitutes an amateur/swinger, a porn star, and a prostitute. In fact, the sexual health argument is something of a red herring because each individual's own sexual health is their own responsibility; sexual freedom means that the onus is on the individual to make their own choices.

I don't think that UK porn stars who are unhappy with the current state of affairs will have too much joy if they rely on the producers to set and maintain standards. Firstly, producers have various views on these issues as has been shown. Secondly, unless they have a specific remit to produce 'fully tested' content, then strict adherence to testing proceedures actually works against their commercial interests. Testing is pretty well mandatory for professionally distributed porn in the USA, and I can envisage that Ofcom may seek to ensure the provenence of broadcast product by specifying similar standards. Politically, the STD/HIV thing is a good stick with which to beat the industry.

But I do think there is a very simple answer to girls (and boys) who feel, like Angel, that the highest standards should apply to porn stars. Set up your own professional body - and set your own standards. If Ofcom regulatees are forced to show ONLY 'tested' product who will the producers turn too?

The practical difficulties of doing this are great. But it is achievable, and with Ofcom coming on line, and the Sexual Offences Bill in the offing, there's probably never been a better time to do it. If Anna Lopez can do it for the International Union of Sex Workers and get GMB recognition, then so can you.

I'm posting anonymously because I compete in this industry (by this industry I mean the sex industry of which pornography is a part). This in no way precludes me from having a political and cultural interest in it too. I can offer advice and some contacts if any one fancies the challenge. But I would suggest that this site itself, the BGAFD, would be a great starting point for Porn Stars to test the waters for a professional body - ask the mods.

Don't fight amongst yourselves, don't fight the producers, fight for your rights - YOURSELVES. If you take control of with whom, when and where you have sex - every time - as a porn star you take control of your own destiny. Do it yourselves or you'll be relying on some seedy entrepreneur, like the necromancer, or worse still, the government, to do it for you.

Attached is diagramatic representation of the sex industry. I'm pushing the notion of proximal and non-proximal sex as a way in which we can define what's prostitution and what's not. Defining things is important in developing a market. At basic level, Angel wanted to define what a porn star is. I hope this simple representation helps a little in making a realistic, practical and understandable definition. (the diagram is part of my academic research - feedback from the industry would be warmly welcomed)

Enjoy the BGAFD 3.

For me the downside of all this is that an Angel/Sandie double BJ seems to be out of the question.
