In fairness, your expectations with Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes wouldn't be high (nor would they be for a cinematic excursion for an ITV sitcom or anything with Macaulay Culkin), whereas a summer blockbuster you'd at least expect to be entertained---even if you had to leave your brain in the foyer. Given it was by the same people responsible for IDIV (and what a pish marketing campaign that name was), I avoided Godzilla like the plague. As for Batman And Robin, is it any wonder the Dark Knight of Gotham City has been missing from our screens for so long?

If I really tried, I could name a good dozen films that are dire but didn't offend nearly as much as something which cost the price of a new hospital to film and was still utter pants.

Ah, but the award wasn't for the Most Disappointing, merely the Worst.
In the former I could probably put almost all of the cinema I've ever watched, in the latter merely about half.

The Three Amigos was a lemon IMO

Comedy is great when it comes off but this was lame to say the least

Riding on the back of a couple of big names

Steve Martin should stick to anything but films

I quite liked that.
But then, I was in hospital having a lobotomy, at the time.

Bloody hell, JJ, you must have extraordinarily high expectations if that's the ratio. What, pray, passes muster? By the way, there is a certain breed cineaste beard-stroker who regard the Carry-ons very highly - a british politics/society thing, so I hear. I wouldn't class them as bad, mere artless mediocrity, to be dismissed in favour of those colossal errors of judgement the big players often make that lead to a different level of badness (Alec Guinness in A Passage to India springs horrifyingly to mind).

That's just it: I don't.
Years of exposure to filmic pap have induced in me an institutional cynicism.
If I want mindless escapism or plain entertainment, I'll read a book (or even watch TV): the sort of film I'd go for would be something that's life-affirming or makes you think a bit......or something that can't be usefully illustrated on the printed page.
