If they're to be anything like 2010, I can wait.
What a load of cobblers the film was. A waste of a good cast.
Mind you, even the book's idea was wearing a little thin by Number 4........

Re: Magician
Found Asimov quite dreary. Ms May's series I read some years ago and enjoyed.

The last one was a bit disappointing, Buttsie. Someone disparagingly referred to the Wheel Of Time as Jordan's pension plan, and I think he took it to heart.. I only hope I live long enough to see its conclusion!

Re: Magician
It all comes down to who's interpreting the book
and how much the budget is
Seen many a good book turned into a Blockbuster which tend to just leave a bad taste in the mouth
His other epic Rama seems to have faired better
Number 3 but concluded
cheers

Re: Magician
Thing is the publishers are the ones turning great works into money printing machines
Even J.R.R. Tolkien didn't get his own way with the publishers
I agree that The Wheel of Time could easily be drawn to a conclusion but thats not what the public wants
All authors do it...some better than others
ie katharine kerr with her deverry series has managed to churn out 2 quartets and a trilogy that are all interconnected-supposebly
Very convenient but very predictable after a time
Even Robert Silverberg has been at it with his Majipoor series
One of the best stand alone authors to my mind
His collaborations/rewritings with Asimov on old Asimov stories are brilliant
I find the stand alone books in general are a better read
cheers

Re: Magician
One recommended author: Robin Hobb. Her Farseer and Liveship trilogies are excellent reads.

Re: Magician
I didn't like the co-authorship in 'Rama': the (?)third book had a load of New Age gobbledegook which was irrelevant to the plot (which itself meandered like anything) and which I'm sure would not have appeared had Clarke alone been at the helm.
And the plot device that meant the Ark was filled with humanity's worst dregs was more than a little forced, too.
Still, it would be a great way to get rid of all the management consultants/estate agents/hairdressers etc....Oops ! No, sorry, Douglas Adams already thought of that one. Damn.

Re: Magician
I Would love to comment but that would mean I'd have to re-read the books and think while doing so-nothing happening
I avoid co-authorship ....have 2 books of ACC
Trigger & The Light of Other days that were joint efforts...I've started both
and stopped before I was even half way through
cheers

Re: Magician
Well, they certainly wouldn't improve on a second reading. Except that you'd be able to skim all the padding this time.
Try the Julian May's, though, if you haven't already. Aren't many modern fiction titles I re-read occasionally.

Re: Magician
Far to many authors out there for my liking
Think I'm gonna stick to non-fiction(The Dummy Series is very good) & selective auto-biographies from now on
Thanks for the tip
I'll keep it in mind when I'm next attempting to escape from reality
which seems to be about every 15 minutes or so
cheers
