There are those who believe Sirhan Sirhan (the assasin of R.Kennerdy) was a Manchurian Candidate.Under the CIA project Artichoke was setup to create an assasin who would kill, and afterwards have no memory of the murder at all.By coincidence John Frankenheimer the director of the film The Manchurian Candidate, drove R.Kennerdy to the Ambassador hotel in Los Angeles where kennerdy was gunned down.

John Thaw.................VERY under-rated before finding his niche as Morse or Kavanagh.

He studied at RADA and hated the ponces that thought 'they had it' whilst he worked bloody hard for his scholarship.
Made a big breakthrough in Z-Cars and went onto Sweeney which by the final series, he hated.
He bailed out and Waterman (George Carter) also quit before another actor came in to reprise a new role.
Made a duff series with a stereotype punk rocker son called Home To Roost, which Im sure Stevie will correct me if Im wrong, then didn't work for some time in anything major and preferred his wife (Sheila Hancox) and family to work.
A devout socialist all his life, hated the parties and ceremonies, and famously attended one of only a handful of BAFTA parties to collect an award statue and looked terrified whilst making a speech
Sadly died from cancer a few years back. A big loss

Richard Condon author I think .(yeah ty google) . Brainwashing is done by Chinese in Korean war . It's an excelent modern novel although the casting of the Americans as the guys in white hats might discourage the willing suspension of disbelief at the moment .
I won't precis the plot no one likes smart ass.
