Guys if you want rap to go back to actually meaning something you should check out some of the UK stuff that is around these days.
You'll probably be more familiar with "The Streets" (latest album is excellent)
But try and check out some other stuff like Paragon, Aspects or Rodney P to name just a few of the excellent UK acts that hey we can actually relate to.
Some of these are difficult to get hold off mind you, because we Brits don't support our homegrown stuff in the charts or on the radio for some reason.
If you ever see "Pitman" on sale get it if you like a laugh.

Because it?s not hyped up and publicized by the corporate cunts of mainstream media - either because it?s deemed explicit, controversial or otherwise ?unsafe? - or because the suits and accounts can?t see an instant profit. To them music is not art, it?s product.
However, it?s the buying public that must take the most blame. They're such brainless, unprincipled, apathetic morons nowadays that they just take any old shite that is fed to them on T.O.T.P?s, kids Saturday morning TV, or anything on ITV. Yep, the corporate cunts are cynical, unprincipled, twats, but I guess if it wasn?t for the undiscerning Chav public buying into this shit culture instead of demanding proper music, plays, films and books created by artists, they would have no option but to shut up shop.
By the way, I am partial to a bit of Eminem.

Sounds like you're preaching to an empty church, Dace. I'm not a rap fan, and tend to switch off whenever it's being played, but I'm ignorant of many of the exponents. Like Magoo says, to a lot of us it's ridiculously dressed men (for the most part) dripping in the sort of jewellery a Cockney would reject as too vulgar. But that's the stuff that gets all the publicity, that and the pretend pimps/gangstas going on about their hos or shooting each other. From being the poetry of the street, it seems to have been hijacked by the sort of arrogant bastards you wouldn't wee on if they were on fire.
I'm sure there's stuff worth listening to, people that actually have something worthwhile to say---but their voice is being drowned out by the loud jewellery and massive egos.
