surely depeche mode and joy division are underated bands? you don't really hear much about them these days compared to a lot of the other bands of the same era.
I agree with U2 and Oasis though.
I nominate in first place: The Beatles
Runners-up: Sex Pistols.
Really overrated bands
Re: Really overrated bands
If that's a comment on my personality then fair enough. If you're saying 'Queen' as the most overrated band, good call.
Re: Really overrated bands
My choices would be Beatles end of......
Marketing hype helps make any band popular, but anyone who has the balls to strap on and plug in and play live, is OK in my book. If they get signed up, fair play to 'em, if I don't like 'em, I don't buy 'em......typical example for me is The Smiths, did nothing for me AT ALL, BUT fair enough, they did make a lot of fans happy, and thats where credit is due

Well I could either spend hours explaining why the Beatles were NOT
the most overrated band of all time.
Or you could go out an listen to Revolver. 14 great songs on one album,
all written by the Beatles, covering a range of styles, and all still being
played and listened to today.
Great ballads ("Here, there and everywhere", "For No one"), way out
music ("Tomorrow Never Knows"), pop music ("Yellow Sunmarine"),
rock/soul (Good day sunshine, I want to tell you), great production ("Elenor
Rigby") and so on.
And that was just one album.
But if someone won't listen then there is not much you can do.

Re: Really overrated bands
please don't patronise me. I've heard more than enough Beatles, including Revolver.
They're not my cup of tea, and I think they are overrated.

Overated? this modern stuff like Franz Ferdinard and the Scissor Sisters are
more likely to be overrated. Modern day camp tosh!

Re: Really overrated bands
Manic Street Preachers, they were really bad live when I saw them as a support act in 1993. One of the worst!!! in my experience.
As one of my mates used to call them Manic Street Depression.
