Good search engines.

Post by fudgeflaps »

I'm looking for a half-decent search engine.

Now before you all scream "Google", I'm pissed off with it- it is pretty crap for finding INFORMATION, as it is way too commercial.

As opposed to finding info, you initially get a link to wikipedia, then about 500 links to sites SELLING a product with tenuous connections to your query.

So, does anyone know of search engines that cut through this commercial pish? I'm beginning to find that Google is becoming a glorified Yellow Pages.

I googled ;-) and came up with this discussion paper from 2004 about commercial vs non-commercial with links to sites offering the best links on various subjects

I agree that google, yahoo, msn, jeeves are next to useless since wiki began for real information that can be trusted

Google is far too vague and general. Finding specific information on the net is difficult.
