From what I remember, I found the PSB very similar to the Stock Aitken & Waterman "sound", which I truly hated. Whatever they made with whoever was involved, in my ears it was all the same rubbish.
From an '80's electro point of view (you can wipe out the "pop" word for this example):

I have to concur with the Kraftwerk comment, I do think they were the forefathers of electro. You will notice the early electro guys, especially Numan, trying to emulate the cold, robotic, emotionless style of Kraftwerk, the 'empty' style of vocal' etc. Kraftwerk were superb, I love their stuff.
