Err- no they didn't! Why should billions of taxpayers' money be spent in such a way- and especially when monopolies lead to worse service.

If your energy supplier is charging you too much- CHANGE YOUR SUPPLIER. This is not rocket science.

There is no point in changing suppliers as they are all ripping us off, if France can supply electricity at less than half the price we can here in the U.K. then we are being ripped off, thats not rocket science either.

Remember that EDF stands for Electricite' De France, Graham.

Owned by the French government.

So they have some questions to answer.

And have you noticed the utilities are now bringing in a payment charge to make you bill up, unless you pay by direct debit, my BT bill now has a ?4.50 payment charge added on wnich means i dont just have to pay the bill but i have to pay for the bill as well ,of course if you pay by direct debit they will just take any ammount of money from your account wether you owe it or not, the Labour goverment has let the utilities do as they wish and Greedy Gordon loves it because bigger bills means more VAT and more money for him to squander, but what can you expect a leader without a mandate is a dictator and he wont call an election because dictators never do.

Either way(initial investment for the infrastructure or billions to buy the public network)their going to recoup their money
Your most likely right in that their treating each market differently
Who's to say what the costs are in the UK versus france
You need hard data to come to any sort of conclusion

I've no doubt there is collusion going on all the time where big business is involved

The only time they compete is when their trying to take their competition over

What a post!

Meandering from VAT to Gordon Brown being a 'dictator'- what?

He hasn't called an election in the same way the Tories didn't when Thatcher handed over to Major; Macmillan to Home; Eden to Macmillan; Churchill to Eden....

Are all Tories dictators too?
