Water should be State owned- instead the Conservatives privatised it, Graham.

Why are you blaming Labour for the Conservatives' fuck-ups?

Because they have had over ten years to sort it out but they choose to do nothing and allow the utilities to continue to rip us off.

So the Tories did fuck up, then Graham.

The truth is that they fucked up for 18 hellish years.

If you had taken the time to read my post on this thread you would have found that i have never voted Conserative and i voted Labour in the 1997 elections, but i wont be voting for them at the next election because they are now more right wing than the tories and i would like to hold on to some of my money but with greedy Biffo in charge there is no chance of that !sad!

We all used to own the public utilities (power, water ,etc). We paid for this through our taxes. Then in the early 80's the Tories decided, through sheer political dogma and for no other reason, to privatised them. This meant that a tiny group of relatively well off individuals and foreign companies owned our public utilities. They own them as a business and as a business they need to make a profit. This resulted in prices increasing and services declining - that's capitalism for you.

It never ceases to amaze me that those who were in the front of the queue to purchase and own shares in the newly privatised public utilities are now the first to complain, criticise and generally moan when prices are increased and services are bad.
