You do get some compo if something sent by normal post or recorded disappears. You can claim 10xvalue of a 1st class stamp. At present this works out at ?2.70. Big money!

Absolutely: and while I was working for them it was unheard-of for the enforcement of the Act.

i'm pretty sure its up to 100 times a first class stamp. as the value is ?27. if you get proof of posting, aswell i think.

recorded is fine if its a relatively inexpensive item you're sending and you need proof of delivery. so some shady git can't say "i never recieved your parcel/letter"

but if you need to send valuable items then its best to use an insured guaranteed service.

this is printed on the back of the Recorded reciept i have:

"IF YOUR ITEM IS LOST OR DAMAGED...
We'll pay you compensation for the value of your item up to 100 times the price of a basic wieght First Class stamp. We do not pay compensation for money, jewellery of other items of value sent Recorded."

i know several people who have claimed this without any fuss, the post office just coughed up ?27.

FAO Carl:

You are, in theory, correct Carl- BUT- the offer of 100X the price of the 1st class stamp ONLY applies if you indicate on the Recorded slip what the actual value of the item is/was at the time of posting, and how many people do that (or would even KNOW)to do that.

With regards to the OSA- I cant see what is wrong with explaining to people ideas/principles that they should already be aware of (made aware of by the RM). I'm not releasing anything "secret", only stuff that is (should be) readily available to the public.

Remember MEX when posting about topics not relating to the Database of British Girls-O/T

Such a simple request I deem.
