Nobby...Is it a remake? (Didnt we have this debate with Taking Of Pelham 123?)
Or is it a new movie using the old title?
As for Tarantino ripping things off, who cares? Most film makers are paying homage to their favoruite bits in cinema
Its whether the final product entertains an audience and if it is any good is what really counts.
I quite like Tarantinos film geek approach to cinema. He bends conventions and makes it roomy for actors to show off their talents. its almost a cinema version of a movie pantomime and I find it very refreshing to all the rehashed unoriginal stuff going around that the moment

Re: Inglorious Basterds....
A vast improvement on his more recent output, but there's a better, shorter film trying to get out.
His best is still Jackie Brown, as his mature, talky, plot-driven approach was perfect for adapting an Elmore Leonard novel. Leonard is a fine writer but many have had trouble doing his works justice on screen. QT, however, got it spot on.
Sadly it left the Taranteenies largely bemused, and he then desperately tried to claw them back with the deeply tedious Kill Bills.

Desperately tried to claw back Last Word???
Kill Bill was inevitably in the works for Tarantino given his love for schlocky exploitation flicks. I think he jus tmade the movie he wanted to make and it wasnt to desperately claw back fans.
I agree the part 2 was a bit lack lustre in tone compared to the first one but I really enjoyed the Kill Bills
Jackie Brown was excellent and I enjoy watching this every now and again to chill out too.
Actually Im surprised no one is annoyed by his foot fetish that he seems to have in every one of his movies.
Im surprised you didnt pick on Death Proof Last Word..I enjoyed that one too. Many didnt. I love the ending of that movie and the silly song that went with it

I see your point, but it seemed as if he was playing into the hands of an audience already predisposed to what he's into (manga, kung-fu etc). In other words, it was demograph/fanboy cinema - one of the curses of the last decade. Fine if you're into it, but you risk feeling locked-out by the whole indulgence of it if you're not.
A shame, as Tarantino is actually a very good mainstream director. Artistically uncompromised but still accessible to all, he's at his best. Basterds is no masterpiece, but overall it's a welcome return to form.

Re: Inglorious Basterds....
I saw Inglorious Basterds not too long ago.
It was OK but it was way too long to watch. Mostly a lot of QT's films are over 2 hours long, which does bore me when you want some certains scenes to move along.
Pulp Fiction was good and so was Jackie Brown.
Kill Bill 1 & 2 were better.

Yep. Guilty as charged. He does do that as he is a fan boy himself. if he picks up new fans along the way then so be it and I do see your point as that is the pit fall of injokes and indulgence but it seems to work quite well for him

Re: Inglorious Basterds....
I have just had the misfortune of starting to watch this pile of absolute TOSH! Brad Pitt is just briefing his merry band, in the worst bit of acting I have ever seen in my life (including "On The Buses") His premise of landing in France and "Scaring the Germans" is total unbelievable SHITE.
I have visited a town in France called Orador-sur-Glane which has been left as a memorial. Basically the Germans rounded up the inhabitants and massacred them. The town has been left untouched since 1944, complete with parked cars. This is what happened when the resistance tried to "Scare" the Germans!
The idea of Hitler stomping around in fear of the "Bear Jew" running amok is total bollocks, he would have simply shot 100 innocent civilians for every German who was killed, simples!
Sometimes Hollywood goes too far in their airbrushing of history. I can't stand to watch any more and I am storming back to Blockbuster and dumping it in their postbox!

Re: Inglorious Basterds....
I don't think you can really call it airbrushing history. Not like there's even a remote feeling watching it that it's trying to portray real history. That's like saying Kill Bill sucked because there's no way a woman can beat 88 japanese crime syndicate members with a sword
