Ned, you misunderstood me. I posted my original comment late afternoon yesterday (Tuesday) and when I said that, according to Sky News, Brown is going to resign in the next hour I am referring to him resigning as Prime Minister - which he did - not to him resigning as an MP or leaving politics.

Interesting, as the speech he gave to party members at the Victoria Street HQ gave the impression to all those there, including many political commentators, that he would be standing down as an MP as soon as a writ for a by election could be tabled (in much the same way as when Blair finally stood down as leader, he resigned from Parliament). Maybe he felt holding a by-election just a few weeks after a General Election wasn't in anyone's interest.

Hi Bob,
Gordon Brown is a political man through and through and it's dominated his life. Maybe he would find it a real wrench to give up being an MP as well as PM so quickly after the election.
Cheers
