Re: The "poor"
Most people are aware of the stats showing how tax evasion by the rich dwarfs benefit fraud by the not so rich. Vodafone was being pursued before the election for ?6 BILLION in tax by HMRC until Mr Osborne and "just call me" Dave stepped in to settle on our behalf at a fraction of that amount, and indeed a fraction of what Vodafone itself had put aside to pay the bill. (?6bn, you may recall, was the critical figure argued over by Dave and Gordon during the general election Leaders' Debate, with Dave stressing just how critical it was for the public finances to find some ?6bn within the next few months.....)
Does the tax evasion of the wealthy excuse the lazy who defraud the taxpayer at the mirco level? No, not at all. However, it sure puts things into perspective. To be honest, I actually feel sorry for the sad fuckers who dupe the state into paying for their sorry existence; devoid of self-respect and never going to amount to anything in life. Frustrating, yes - but can anyone on here admit that they'd genuinely love to be one of those people?
Sadly, lazy people/chavs will always find a way to work the system through whatever means open to them. In a population of 60 million it's inevitable.

Re: Did anyone see the news last night?
Around 7:06pm last evening a man in the Scottish borders was rushed into casualty with 2nd degree burns around his crotch and bum area. The cause is unknown but in a community not far from the hospital one local called police when he saw a neighbour run down the street with his pants seemingly 'on fire'. Officers are treating these two incidents as related but there still are no clues as to how a person's pants would spontaneously combust. Medical experts are also baffled.
Edit: This morning local school children seemed to have the answer. Apparently pants (or just the bum area) are said to commonly 'catch fire' when one lies too much. More details to follow....

My missus hears those sort of comments all the time in the surgery where she works.
So, I'm with you on this.

Would you prefer there were no welfare state, where people had to sit on street corners begging for enough moeny to buy some bread, and walked around with no shoes on?Just so you could feel happy that a few quid out of your pocket isn't going to feed and cloth some poor sod who couldn't get a job anywhere anyway. Grow up ffs.

Any more stories, PH? Have a few drinks and let's see what you can come up with tonight. I'm up for a laugh.

Your post reminds me of the old 60s sketch about the class system 'He looks down on him, and he looks down on him'. You're not just looking down though are you, you're contemptuous. I don't really understand why you would choose to live like this. Don't you find the spite and bitterness debilitating ?
