Law - as I see it

Post by Crimpo »

First, excellent post Fonz - said that all better than I ever could.

As I understand it the law states that if an illegal image appears on your screen then you have 'downloaded' it and committed an offence.

However, due to the amount of scumbag spams and address hijacking that goes on - not to mention dodgy links and cookies - noone is going to be prosecuted on such flimsy evidence.

The current wave of arrests is down to the fact that those concerned PAID by credit card for illegal sites - hence providing the law with both their personal details and enough evidence to convict them. Personally I'm happy to see paedophiles convicted - the pre-trial publicity is a disgrace in my view

BTW, the individuals concerned (pace Townshend) seem to have been either incredibly stupid, or weak-willed: they must surely have KNOWN that a card transactio would alert the watchers to their activities.

Yeah, before the identity of 'the famous rock star' was revealed I was hoping it was going to be some poncy sanctimonious twat like 'Cliff' or 'Bono' or even 'Billy Bragg' then we could all revel and wallow in the magnificence of their unbridled hypocrisy. But I suppose Townsend will do at a push - I believe he did align himself with some political causes and other 'socially aware' and 'socially concerned' groups like UB40 and indeed Billy Bragg. I would have been mortified if it had been a proper rock star like Jagger & Co. Thankfully, that was not the case and I can rest easy knowing that Mick and the crew are only into traditional wholesome rock star pleasures - like shagging all the birds at Charlie and Krug fuelled parties. Driving your Ferrari into a pal's garden pond while the top international fashion model of the moment leans over from the passenger seat and sucks your cock! Getting plastered on Bollinger at the Queen's garden party, then lighting up a joint before crashing out over the 'horses doobries' and voleu-vents! That's how proper rock stars should behave - just having a dam good time and t' fuck with everything else - not creepily or pretentiously 'researching paedophilia.'

Dibble, yeah good Ol' Rolling Stones!!! Remember Bill Wyman and that 13 year old Mandy Smith? Just like you said, 'having a damn good time'.

Whatever.... will the outcome here diminish the quality of records he made over 30 years ago? No. And if the Bill Wyman/Mandy Smith thing happened now in these days of blind hysteria, would "Jumping Jack Flash" and it's bassline be any less brilliant? It shouldn't, and it in my eyes, it wouldn't. Let's face, nearly 20 years on, Wyman would be crucified in the current climate. Would it have made "Exile On Main Street" a forgotten album?
And, with the state and police being even less trustworthy than the media, to quote an old headline, who breaks a butterfly on a wheel?
Anyway, it's all hearsay at the moment. Let's save our needless "opinions" till "something" has been "proved"...

Actually, as a Stones fan, I can assure you Wyman didnt play on Exile on Main Street, Beggars Banquet or Goats Head Soup. The Bass tracks were layed down by Keef Richard.

Indeed. My memory of the Mandy Smith period is now a little fuzzy. But as I recall Mandy was in no way a naive innocent victim. She was very beautiful and sophisticated and EVERYONE was fooled about her age. It was she who dollied herself up and when out to get her man with the apparent blessing of her mother - what a prize? The bass player with the second richest, most famous rock group in the world. There can be little doubt that Mrs Smith would be getting out her best china when Bill came round for tea.

But, if there had been the slightest sustainable evidence that Bill had shagged Mandy before the appointed hour I'm sure 'The Current Bun' would have stirred things up and seen to it that "the authorities had to act." simply because that would have been a bigger story for them - they don't give a fuck about ruining lives. Also, Bill 'n' Mandy carried their 'friendship' on under the glare of the media as though - in true Stones tradition - they didn?t care. They had nothing to hide and it wasn?t secret or sleazy. They all just seemed to carry on having fun and getting plastered at 'Stringys' ever night. And let's not forget that Bill did eventually 'do the right' thing by marrying Mandy - though of course it was doomed to failure.

From 'we piss anywhere, man' to Royal Garden Parties.
Rock? Don't make me laugh- the Stones haven't written a decent tune since 1986.
I liked Andrea Corr's comment when Mickey Boy sidled expectantly over to her at some bash recently: 'It ain't gonna happen, Mick'......perhaps she didn't fancy squatting on a guy who looks like the proverbial wedding-cake left out in the rain.

That Pope quotation from Rees-Mogg's Times editorial was when the Jagman had been done for a couple of spliffs or some pills, if memory serves.
Hardly in the same league as this month's allegations.
